This number IS indeed associated with BARCLAYS. It's a private number, typically employed by my local branch for confirming my father's identity. A member of the team rang our home phone, connected my Dad, and I had the opportunity to validate both his and the staff member's identities. The reason they come across as “suspicious” over the phone is that they tend to be cautious about revealing a cardholder’s details, in order to protect their safety, and the number isn't a public one (at least not normally). Well, I suppose it is now, isn’t it? 🙄

I had a call from this number that barely rang twice before it went silent. I called back straight away, as I'm quite aware of these dodgy phone scams, so I planned to keep my personal details close to my chest. However, it seemed no one was on the other end to respond.

I reached out to Action Fraud for some advice, and they mentioned that such calls are often spoofed, where the number is essentially a made-up one generated by a computer, meaning it might not even belong to a real subscriber of any mobile provider.

Next time they ring, I think I'll have a bit of fun and toss out a made-up name if they try to fish for personal details!

I got a call from someone claiming to be Tom at my nearby Barclays branch, saying it was just a quick ‘well-being’ check. Then he asked if I’d run through some security questions with him. I told him I wasn’t comfortable sharing any security info and that everything was fine with me and my account. He was really polite though, saying I could ring him back on the same number if I needed to. After the call, I looked up the number on Barclays’ official list and it isn’t there at all.

Received a call supposedly from Barclays, requesting my personal information. What a bunch of novices! They ought to switch their number every now and then to avoid detection.

She claimed she needed to chat with someone in charge of banking matters. When I inquired which bank she was referring to, she mentioned a Katie from Barclays. The thing is, I don’t have an account there! So how on earth did she get hold of my number?
