When I asked to speak to a manager, the person who answered (sounds like they had an Asian accent) came back on the line again pretending with a posh accent to be the manager. I told them I was sure it was the same caller but they denied it. I'm struggling to figure out how to block or report this number. They said if we hang up they’ll just keep ringing us back.

Got a call on my rarely used landline from a guy with an Asian accent. He said he was ringing from BT Openreach, said they’d just done some upgrades nearby, and wanted to check how my internet was performing. Oddly, he already had my name and postcode, even though I never gave it to him. I don’t even use BT and hardly anyone ever calls that number anymore. Pretty sure it was a dodgy call, so I didn’t bother sticking around to see what the scam was about.

Got a call just before 8 in the morning. The guy didn’t speak great English and kept asking if I was okay. When I asked who was calling, he said I was being rude! Then he started saying he was from BT about my internet, but I wasn’t having it and hung up.

Then the bloke just started yelling at me. I just ended the call. Not sure what scam they were trying, but I wasn’t going to stick around to find out.

Got a call from someone with a thick Indian accent claiming to be a BT engineer called Derek O'Brian (really?), telling me there was a problem with my internet and asking me to ring him back on 02032394560. He even gave me an employee ID from BT, along with a case number and a reference! He seemed a bit put out and said I wasn’t taking him seriously enough, which was quite funny.

Honestly, the easiest way to deal with those irritating phone rings is just pick up when it rings. You don’t have to say a word, just stay quiet and listen. If it turns out to be a silent call or some dodgy scam, make sure you report it straight to the police fraud website. Just google 'action fraud' and follow the links to the UK police site. Then find the phishing reports section and scroll right to the bottom to fill in the quick form. The only way to get these scam calls to ease off is by reporting them.

Got a call from the same number twice in one day. This time they were trying to get me to go online and “check my iPad address” or something like that.
