Initially, it was a pre-recorded robotic voice claiming I had an outstanding balance on an Amazon order-except I don't even use Amazon! What’s more, this robotic message went on to ask for a bank transfer to settle this imaginary debt to Amazon. Then a chap with an Indian or Pakistani accent came on the line, asserting he was representing my bank. He insisted that I provide my bank account and card details because, apparently, I had been the victim of a hacking incident.
