So, I got a call after buying a cooker from AO. The person seemed really clued up about the product and I ended up giving them my account details and sort code to arrange some kind of care plan. Later on, I started feeling iffy about it and rang up Domestic and General who said they hadn’t anything to do with it. Pretty sure it was a dodgy trader then. My bank put a block on the number straight away. Watch out, it’s a total scam!

I got a call from AO pushing me to buy insurance. They went over the details and got me to confirm the purchase, but then outta nowhere started pushing me to set up direct debits right then and there. They wouldn’t give me a chance to say no or even get a word in. When I told them I wasn’t interested, they just talked to me like I didn’t understand anything. After I said no to the insurance, they were really rude and just hung up on me. Proper frustrating experience.

It wasn’t spam or anything, just a call to confirm my delivery was still okay and to see if I’d be interested in a care plan.

Didn’t pick up the phone, I reckon it’s AO since I recently got some appliances from them. Gonna just give it a miss and maybe block the number. If it was something urgent, they’d have sent me an email and I can check the status on their app anyway. Seems a bit dodgy using a local number like that. If it’s about selling warranties, pass. They’re usually a waste of money and the first year’s covered anyway.

I received a pre-recorded call claiming to be from my bank regarding a fraudulent transaction. They stated that £1300 had been siphoned off for some international transfer and another £250 for Amazon. I immediately hung up and tried ringing back the number, entering 141 before it, which was 01733201539, but it just kept ringing without anyone picking up. Quite suspicious, if you ask me!

I’ve not picked up but got a couple of missed calls right after buying something from AO. Happened to me once before too - it’s always their sales team ringing to push warranties on you. They’re really persistent. I reckon AO must sneak that into their terms and conditions somehow to share your number legally, ‘cos otherwise it’d break data protection laws. Bit disappointing AO have to do this just to squeeze a bit more money out of their sales, really.

I received a call concerning my AO order for a new oven the other day. The chap on the line claimed they were setting up some automatic insurance, however, he insisted on obtaining my bank sort code and account number for the Domestic Insurance payments. It really frustrated me when I refused to comply, as I know they can process payments without such sensitive information. I mentioned that I never disclose my banking details over the phone and questioned why they didn’t possess that information if they were indeed a legitimate company. In the end, he informed me that they couldn’t proceed without those details and would have to cancel the insurance. I've since blocked the number. Upon checking my phone, I discovered they attempted to reach me twice yesterday, but I was unable to answer at the time.

Warranty insurance scams are way too common these days. These fraudsters ring you up trying to get your bank info so they can sell you some fake product warranty or breakdown cover. I doubt this number is one of those scams though. It’s probably legit. Still, be cautious, use your judgement, and if you’re curious about what they’re offering, look them up online and read some reviews first. Then give them a call back. Don’t ever agree to anything or share your details on a random cold call. Only silly folks do that, and scammers make a good living off of them.
