Got a text from a number I didn’t know saying my payment was declined, and it had my full card details in the message. This seems like a serious security issue. If you’re with Halifax, I’d definitely advise locking your card straight away.

Received a text today (11/1/2026) claiming a payment to Go X was refused because of a card freeze or limit on my account. It said to ring the number they provided. They claimed to be Halifax. They gave the last four digits of the card but those aren’t mine. Funny enough, my card might have been compromised a couple of days ago, and I cancelled it straight away. So, this seems really dodgy and probably linked. Since it’s Sunday evening, I’ll contact Halifax tomorrow. Plus, I haven’t used that card in over two years, so I’m pretty sure it’s a scam.

Got a text today claiming to be from Halifax, but the number was different from their usual one - it showed as 01733 573189. It popped up in the same chat where I had earlier Halifax messages. The message said something about a PayPal payment being declined because my card was frozen or had some limit put on it. When I checked my account, there was a notification saying they couldn’t confirm if the payment went through or not. I’m planning to ring Halifax back using the contact number I find on their official website, just to be sure this isn’t some scam.

About half an hour ago, I got a text from this number. I rang up Halifax and was put through to their fraud team. They ended up cancelling my card and had a look over my account. The weird thing is, the suspicious activity was from Dalaman airport in Turkey. Lucky for me, there wasn't £5,000 sitting in my account.

In the wee hours, my husband got a text saying his Halifax card was declined for something he didn’t do. The message told him to call a number included in the text. Since he’s waiting on a new credit card anyway, he was a bit confused. We decided to look up the number and found out loads of other people had the exact same experience.

Got three messages telling me my card got declined on alibaba.com, they said to check the app and unfreeze it if needed or call a number they gave. They said it was Halifax, but that number isn’t linked to Halifax at all.

Got a couple of texts about my credit card having some declined transactions, and they told me to ring this very number for help. I didn’t wait around and contacted my credit card company right off the bat to make sure everything was safe. Thankfully, all is well, but I’m certain this number is tied to some kind of scam.

Honestly, this number is actually on the back of my Halifax credit card! If these scammers somehow hacked into Halifax’s card printing, that’s some next level stuff. I called it back after spotting it here and then double-checking my card, and yep, definitely spoke to Halifax!

So this bloke rang me from 01733573189, said his name was Andrew Deens and claimed to be from Halifax’s fraud team. He told me there was a suspicious payment of £449 on my card linked to HRG, which he said Argos was connected to under Halifax. Then he said he could stop that charge and another smaller one, about £36, if I sent him back a code he would send to my phone. Even though he sounded super polite and convincing, I didn’t fall for it. He warned me that if I didn’t follow his instructions, he wouldn’t be able to help with any money lost. I just ended the call straightaway.

Got a text saying my payment was refused, supposedly from Halifax. They even included the last four digits of my card, so it looked legit. But then they asked me to call a number that wasn’t Halifax’s at all. Definitely a scam, watch out!

Absolute scam alert! Someone rang my grandparents pretending to be from Halifax. They got my grandparents to approve a transaction and even tricked them into giving a code, claiming it would protect them from fraud. Less than half an hour later, £340 had vanished from their bank. Total scam, just hang up if you get a call like this!

Yesterday my mother in law got a phone call saying £600 had been taken from her bank account and to press 1 if she didn’t approve it. We’ve always warned her about these kind of scam calls and told her to just put the phone down, so luckily she did that straight away. We’ve also advised her to just disregard any other calls that say they’re from Visa in the future.
