Received a phone call claiming to be from Barclays? It was an automated message requesting my sort code and account number. Given that all legitimate Barclays numbers start with 0345, I was understandably cautious. I entered 999999 for the sort code just to see what would happen, and then the robot voice told me to hold for a representative. After waiting for what felt like ages, I decided to end the call after five minutes of being kept on hold.

I had a rather courteous woman ring me today. She claimed to be representing Barclays and began posing security questions that seemed to dig into my private details. I've encountered calls from Barclays previously where an automated voice would merely request me to select a letter or a digit from a set of three options. Uncomfortable with her probing, I chose to end the conversation and promptly ended the call.

I got a call from a woman who was really polite and said she was calling from Barclays. She began asking me some security questions that made me worried she might get hold of my private details. Normally, when Barclays ring me, it’s just some automated voice asking to pick a letter or number out of three options, nothing like this. I didn’t feel right about it, so I told her I wasn’t comfortable and ended the call.
