Answered a call from someone claiming to be with Legal & General, saying my insurance needed renewing. I told them I already sorted it and ended the call. Later, I tried ringing the number back just to check, but it wouldn’t go through at all - definitely dodgy.

Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent who was asking me questions about a life insurance plan. I told her she’d got the wrong number and ended the call pretty quick as it definitely felt like a scam. It’s frustrating because I reckon some folks might fall for their lines. These scammers really ought to be stopped!

Police are only able to tackle these scams if they get told about them in the first place. Our telecom companies and the police have set up a service to log scam calls. They do look into some reports, but only when lots come in. If you want more info, have a look at the phishing page on the police’s Action Fraud site. To report suspicious calls, text 7726. If they need more details, they might ask you to send it again. You should also forward any scam texts to 7726, and send a screenshot by email to '[email protected]'. For scam emails, forward them to '[email protected]'.

If you can manage to sound younger or know someone who has a more youthful voice, you might want to try what I did. Just say you’re about 14 or 15 and don’t really get what they are talking about, or tell them you’re at school and can’t answer the phone, so you need an adult. Another thing to try is saying someone else has to deal with the call because of legal stuff. Fingers crossed they’ll quit bothering you after that.

I got a call from someone claiming to be Aviva, saying they wanted to go over my insurance policy. Then they handed me off to some so-called independent assessor. I just ended up hanging up after that. Turns out, it was a total scam because I kept getting calls back from a strange number I didn't recognise!

Got a call about checking my Covid vaccine status. I quickly asked if he was trying to pitch some health insurance, but he said no. Then I wondered why he’d need to check my vaccination if he wasn’t with the NHS, and he just hung up. Honestly worried that older or more vulnerable folks might hand over their info on calls like this.

Got a ring on my private mobile from some cold caller. I don't bother with random calls. If you want to chat, you'll need to sort it through my assistant and cough up a fee before I even think about picking up.

Received a call from someone claiming to represent the "National Health Association". When I probed further with a simple, "And what exactly is that?" they abruptly ended the conversation. The noise of a call centre bustling in the background was quite evident, too.

Got a call from a guy with a foreign accent trying to sell me a debt consolidation thing. He said I owed some unsecured debt that could be wiped out for like £80 or £90 each month. When I asked him who he was and where he got my number, he just kept going on about the consolidation deal and never answered my questions.
