Got a call earlier today from a bloke saying he was with UK Claims about some bank overpayment. He claimed to be from the government and mentioned a cheque waiting for me. When he asked me for my birth date, I told him if he really was from the government, they’d already have that info. Then he just called me daft and ended the call. Weird experience!

On 28th November 2020, I answered the phone and the woman asked if I was (she got my surname correct). I said who’s asking, and she said Christina. The line was scratchy so I couldn’t catch what she said after that. I asked her to say it again, but then she just ended the call. We’re based in Leeds, LS25 postcode.

I got a call from a woman who said she was Christine, working for Claim Advisory Group. She told me I could claim back money from old bank charges and that I'd receive a cheque within a few days. She wanted my date of birth and which bank I used. I didn’t give her the correct details. Then she mentioned her manager at head office would ring me sometime between 12 and 12.30pm.

So, I picked up this call and the person immediately wanted to talk to my husband. I asked for their name first, but what came next was just nonstop swearing, the rudest stuff you could think of. The caller spoke with an Asian accent too. Very strange and quite rude!

I got a ring from this number earlier, some woman with an Asian accent saying my bank had charged me too much and they were fixing it. I decided to humour her. She asked for my phone and address, so I told her, “If you’re really from my bank, you’d already have that info, no need to ask.” Then she admitted, “We’re not actually from your bank,” and hung up on me. Some bloke rang my elderly dad saying he was owed some cash. He asked Dad to buy a £200 gift card from a shop nearby - he even named the exact shop! Then he said he’d come by to pick it up and in return, Dad would get a £3600 cheque. Creepy part was, he already had Dad’s full name, address, and phone number. He said he’d turn up after 11 this morning. Really unsettling stuff. We’ve reported it to the police.

So yeah, yesterday this guy with an Asian accent tried to tell me I’d won £3600 or summat and gave me some code or whatever. Then this Asian lady told me to buy an Amazon voucher, she said £200 - which I didn’t do by the way, cos I found the whole thing fishy. Spent a good bit of time chatting with them, just winding them up really. Keeps them busy, so they can’t scam anyone else at least. Like I said before, they’d need to get up way earlier to catch me out, lol! 😁

Like I said, they never directly ask for your bank info but instead want you to buy a £200 paysafecard. The story goes that you hand it over once you get your cheque. What they actually want is for you to read out the paysafecard number on the phone. That’s exactly when your £200 disappears and guess what - no cheque will ever turn up. Total scam, watch out for this!

I got a call where they wanted me by name, and when I asked who it was, they claimed to be from some kind of claims firm. They said I had been charged too much recently on my bank card and promised a refund arriving by post. I just said cheers and that was that. Funny thing is, they don’t have my address - I reckon the bloke was pretty green at this scam job. He’ll need to try a lot harder to trick me. Maybe they’ll try phoning again to swipe my bank info, haha, good luck with that!

I've had a few calls from these individuals, all insisting that there's a cheque worth £3,600 waiting for me, supposedly from the Ministry of Justice due to some mysterious hidden bank charges. To supposedly claim this cheque, they provide a unique reference number and ask you to pop down to a major supermarket to fetch an Amazon voucher for £200. After that, they promise you the cheque, and once it clears in three days, you’re instructed to hand over the Amazon card in exchange. They claim this cheque compensates you for their 'services' in tracking down your cash. Now, if something genuinely belongs to you, why on earth would you need to fork out money upfront? It’s a classic con, aimed particularly at the elderly. Stay alert and don’t fall for it!

I got a call from someone claiming to be with Visa, saying they were sending me a cheque as a refund for extra bank fees I'd supposedly paid. They asked me to confirm my bank info to verify my identity. When I told them it sounded like a scam, the woman on the line, who spoke with an accent I couldn’t place, asked why I thought that. I explained my account has never gone overdrawn, so no fees apply. Then she just ended the call.
