I have a mate who runs a marketing company in India and they buy thousands of UK numbers every month to push adverts on Facebook and Instagram. They also use VPNs to make it look like the calls are coming from nearby locations, like where the number is registered. So don’t be fooled - the 01709889223 number isn’t really from Rotherham or British Telecom. It’s likely a scam number pretending to be BT to trick people. The best thing to do is tell them to take you off their call list, since they’re not allowed to keep calling you if you’re on the TPS. If they call again, you can report them to the telecom authority or the TPS itself.
