It wasn’t from the Rotherham dialling code, but it did come from our nearby area code, then the number 248775. Totally a fake number, I reckon. Someone claimed to be “bank security” and said there’d been two charges on my card - one for Amazon and another one. Got the same rubbish message we get now and then, only the number seems local this time. Proper scummy folks.

Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent, claiming there’d been a car crash involving me. Problem is, I had no accident at all. I ended up spinning him a wild tale about bumping my car this morning in a supermarket lot, went on for about half an hour. They were going on about compensation, so maybe they were after my bank info or something. After about 35 minutes, he cottoned on that I was messing him about and tried to say I’d have to pay for wasting his time. Lovely. Then he sent a WhatsApp message which I just ignored and blocked straight away.

My phone showed a spam alert when 01709248775 rang me, so I decided not to pick up. I later checked the number here and I'm really glad I didn't answer. Definitely marking this one as a risky call.

Someone rang me up saying that a relative of mine had been in a crash. I told them no when they asked questions, and then they just went and cut off the call.

I received a call from 774, which turned out to be linked to an insurance matter, while 775 was just a rehearsed patter about car collisions. For a fortnight, at around the same time each day, I made it abundantly clear that I would be alerting the authorities about these calls. Eventually, they attempted to redirect me to some complaint hotline, but their tactics were quite transparent.

I hesitated before greeting in an Asian accent... After reading the earlier feedback on this site, I've decided to block that number. Cheers!

I keep my lips sealed to avoid triggering the recording. It goes eerily quiet, which feels rather unsettling.

So I got a call from someone called "Daniel" claiming to be from "Churchill" insurance, saying I owed money from a car crash I've never even been in for over 20 years. At first, I went along with it just to see where it was going, knowing full well it was a scam. Once I told him I was onto his trick, most times they hang up straight away, but this bloke kept pushing and wouldn't back down. Honestly felt a bit dodgy...

I accidentally answered because it looked like a local number from my area. Since then, I've been getting loads more spam calls, so it’s obvious they passed my details along. Honestly, avoid picking up if you see this number!

Received a call with no sound on the line. Definitely a dodgy number!

Just ignore and block them. These scammers have some computer software that scans the web looking for phone numbers posted on legit sites like Gumtree or social media. Once they find a number, their call centre, which is somewhere in India, rings you up trying to trick you with stuff like car accident scams. They tend to ring about three times in a row, often from different UK-looking numbers but they're definitely fake. If your number starts ringing shortly after you put it online, dont pick up, just block straight away!

Picked up the call, but they were silent. I don’t usually bother to introduce myself when it’s a number I don’t recognise, so I reckon that’s why they decided to end the call abruptly.

It showed up as Rotherham Town Centre on the caller ID but turned out to be a scam. They called my husband's phone saying I'd been involved in an accident. When I told them I hadn’t, they asked if any of my family or mates had. Surely no insurance firm would be ringing at nearly 6pm on a Friday evening, that’s just dodgy.

So, funny story about a supposed car crash that actually didn’t happen at all. Someone called saying there had been an accident involving my car, but as it turns out, nothing like that took place. Quite the mix-up, really!

They pretend to be AVIVA, saying they're calling from London but it's really someone in Rotherham. This is proper dodgy. When will our phone companies and GCHQ get a grip and sort these muppets out?

I've been getting quite a few calls lately, and it's starting to get rather peculiar. This week alone, I've had five different numbers reach out to me, all inquiring about a car crash that never took place. It's all a bit odd, to be honest!
