It seems to me that many individuals only remark on the accent because they presume the call originates from an overseas contact centre, as you've rightly pointed out. Admittedly, it could also be interpreted as having racial undertones, but context is everything, I suppose. Just half an hour ago, I received a ring from this number, but I wasn’t quick enough to pick it up. In hindsight, perhaps it's for the best that I missed it! 😊

Without a doubt, this number 01707802099 is a scammer's line, supposedly hailing from Welwyn Garden City. The chap on the other end claimed his name was "Gordon," but I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. I hung up straight away. I received a call from someone with a very pronounced Indian accent claiming to be Alan - quite the classic name, isn't it? He mentioned something about me having an accident whilst on my holiday. I picked up the phone and was greeted by an Indian lady inquiring about my married name-something I haven't used in ages. At that moment, I realised it was a classic scam call. I simply replied, "No, that isn't me, you've got the wrong number."

The presence of an Indian accent in these calls is quite significant, wouldn’t you say? It’s a well-known fact that a majority of so-called "scam" phone calls have their roots in India. I mean no offence, but the real issue lies with the companies that allow this egregious breach of our privacy to continue. They seem utterly unconcerned about the turmoil they inflict on innocent individuals. Genuine calls have been overshadowed by such unscrupulous practices. I found it rather noteworthy that the person on the other end had an Indian accent and specifically asked for me by name. When I inquired about the identity of the caller, he introduced himself as John. However, when I pressed for the purpose of his call, he abruptly hung up. Quite suspicious, don't you think?

I reckon I let the call drag on longer than necessary. The chap claimed he was from a firm named Fusion and insisted he wasn’t trying to push any sales. I mused, “Oh, just a natter then?” When I chuckled and mentioned I had to dash off, he started pleading, “NO MISS, PLEASE, JUST LET ME TALK!” Quite the performance, if you ask me.
