I don’t see why anyone feels the need to point out an “Indian accent” when talking about these calls. Honestly, it just feels unnecessary and kind of annoying to me. There are loads of people with Indian accents living in the UK, so it’s not like it’s something unusual or worth highlighting. Sure, some folks from India work in call centres, but so do people from all over the place. Bringing up someone’s accent only seems to stir up unhelpful stereotypes. I’m braced for people to come at me now for saying this!

I reckon folks mention the accent 'cause they just assume the call's coming from some overseas call centre, like you said yourself. Sure, it could be taken as a bit of a race thing, but there’s some reason behind it I guess. About half an hour ago, this number rang me, but I missed it. Guess that was a stroke of luck on my part. :)

This guy had a really strong Indian accent and said his name was Alan, which sounded a bit off, not exactly an Indian name you'd expect. Then he claimed I'd been in an accident while on holiday. I just replied 'yeah' and then he suddenly cut the call. So weird!

I picked up and this lady with an Indian accent wanted my married surname, which I don’t use anymore. That was an instant red flag for me, knew it was dodgy. I just told her no, wrong number, and ended it there.

Was in the middle of listening to Olivia Rodrigo's Jealousy, Jealousy when this call popped up and completely threw me off. Honestly, it was such an annoying interruption. Olivia definitely deserves way better than this kind of rudeness.

I’ve learned my lesson not to say “yes” when I get these calls. Some of them try to catch you on tape agreeing to stuff, so it’s better to just hang up or be careful what you say.

The fact that many scam calls come with an Indian accent isn’t something to ignore. From what I’ve seen, a large chunk of these dodgy calls have their roots in India. I mean no offence, but it’s the firms that back this rubbish that are truly at fault for letting this mess go on. They seem to have zero concern for the trouble they bring to everyday people just trying to get on with their lives. Proper, honest calls have basically disappeared because of these nasty tactics. Honestly, they’re nothing more than pests, totally clueless about the damage they do.
