I got a call about a refund for a Hotpoint washing machine, claiming I was owed £149 because of an overcharge, which isn’t true. After a while, I told the caller to stop ringing me as I’m on the TPS and accused him of trying to con me. I ended the call and checked his number using 1471. He somehow knew my name and address, probably from the landline directory. When I got a bit sharp with him, he started saying it must be some kind of error.
