11 yearsI just got a call from some muppet who said his name was William. He tried to tell me about his company, but honestly, the name was a total mouthful and made zero sense. Lucky for me, I didn’t fall for any of their nonsense.William11 yearsGot a call from a woman with an Indian accent claiming she could help fix some unwanted pop-ups I get when browsing online. I asked why my antivirus wasn’t blocking them, and she said the nasties sneak past it without me noticing, and that I wouldn’t see what’s wrong until I followed her instructions. Then she told me I needed to be sitting at my PC with internet ready before she could start. I said no way, but asked if she could just send me the steps so I could try later. She insisted that wouldn’t work because I’d have to describe exactly what was happening on screen while she guided me through each step. I just said no thanks and hung up. Tried calling the number back but it wasn’t recognised. Luckily I’ve got call barring on my phone. Shame these scams keep changing numbers - annoying time wasters, but guess they must be making money somehow! - Caller ID said "Local Computer Assist" or similar.Caller11 yearsGot a call from someone with an Indian subcontinent accent claiming they could "repair an issue with my computer." They were trying hard to trick me into handing over private info or clicking on a dodgy phishing link. Best thing to do is block their number and flag it. Underneath... uh, mumble mumble... oh, what a laugh!" And then it cut off abruptly. What a hilarious outcome!11 yearsJust had a call that went straight to my voicemail without a message. Now, I'm facing a peculiar situation with my landline - there's no dial tone at all! Tried hanging up, but it seems my phone is playing hard to get.
