I got a call from some random number telling me I’d won a holiday, then they connected me to this number saying I had to pay a “deposit” just to book a meeting where they’d give me the holiday voucher. They said it would be a 90 minute meeting all about the holiday... kinda sounds like a timeshare pitch, if you ask me. I reckon it’s the same.

This reminds me of a call I got back in early 2018. The person claimed I’d bagged a holiday and rattled through loads of things I needed to do, but I’d already switched off by then. Proper hard sell! They wanted me to sit through a 90 minute presentation. No chance! It takes me longer just to get my students to finish an exam in that time. I told them just to send the tickets if I’d really won, I’d happily go anywhere warmer than this weather. Not surprisingly, they just hung up.

They managed to get my information while I was queuing to catch my flight in Alicante, which was accurate. I received an invitation to a seminar in Birmingham, supposedly to discover my prize (or whatever it was meant to be). What’s the point of that? It turns out they're peddling timeshares or holiday homes. There could very well be some catch associated with this so-called prize, but I didn't go along with it.

I’ve been getting calls from this number every day for the last week. I looked it up here, then picked up today and kindly told them I wasn’t interested in a free holiday, as I’m still enjoying my last one and they should maybe offer it to someone else - I even went along and made it sound like I was doing them a huge favour! :-) That seemed to do the trick. Shame these scam calls can’t be blocked properly, it’s quite unsettling, especially since they’re asking for credit card details.

I had a rather suspicious phone call earlier today from someone claiming my husband had signed up for some sort of competition. They wanted me to confirm a few details, but honestly, it all felt a bit off, so I decided to decline their request. When I mentioned that we are registered with the Telephone Preference Service, the caller became quite flustered and struggled to provide clear information about the company they represented. I also didn’t feel comfortable disclosing whether my husband would be around later. The whole interaction came across as excessively insistent and rather intrusive.

They’ve called me quite a few times lately. I finally picked up today and had a chat. They claimed I completed some kind of survey, maybe I did, maybe not. Then they tried to sell me a deal for three holidays, one was in Turkey. I told them I wasn’t really keen on any of those locations. I mentioned I preferred Barbados or Cyprus instead, and the caller just hung up on me. Total scam in my opinion. So I’ve blocked the number now.

I had a rather peculiar experience today, much like yours! It began with a call from Milton Keynes, swiftly followed by another from Southend on Sea. At first, I honestly thought I was losing my mind when they mentioned I had entered a holiday giveaway of which I have no recollection whatsoever. They even claimed I signed up for it on the 18th of July! I politely asked them to ring me back later since I was caught up with work and decided to have a little look at my browsing history from that date-guess what? Not a single competition in sight! Funny that, isn’t it? I’ve promptly blocked both of those numbers now.

Got a call from someone who already had my full name and where I live, telling me I’d won a holiday. I told them I don’t enter competitions and it was likely one of those deals where the accommodation is “free” but you end up paying loads for the flights, probably more than just booking a holiday normally or a timeshare. I asked them to send me the info and said I’d just turn up at the airport for my “free” trip. Didn’t even wait for a reply, said cheers and hung up. After reading these comments, sounds like one of those timeshare scams for sure.
