This morning nearly every extension in our office (over 50 people) got calls from the same number. Seems like they just dial through numbers in sequence since all ours are one after the other. It’s a dodgy claims company looking to catch people for accidents that never even took place. I don’t think your number’s been leaked or anything, they just blast out to whole ranges of numbers. Best bet is to keep them hanging, say you’re waiting on some forms or whatever, then leave them on hold as long as you can.

Got a call from this number around 8 in the evening on Saturday 14th Jan, same old tale about insurance checks and whatnot. My number’s ex-directory ‘cause of previous threats to my daughter, so I asked where they picked it up from - he was dodgy and then started pushing for info about my car to “handle my claim.” Thing is, neither me nor my wife have made any claim. Got a call from an Indian bloke claiming I was in a car crash that never happened! Proper rude and pushy, and when I told him to jog on, he just hung up on me! Said he got my info from my insurance, but when I asked which company he wouldn't say, just tried to smart off saying "don’t you know your insurer’s name?" These lot are a right pain. I’ve come up with a couple of ways to handle them. First, ask for the full registered address of their company and watch them hang up sharpish. Second, mess with their time just like they’re doing to mine. Like, quiz them on how they know about my car - what make is it? What do they know about the crash? Are they aware I was in hospital? Then drop the bomb that I don’t actually own a car. That usually sends them packing for a good few months, and it’s a bit of a relief knowing I’m stopping them from hassling anyone else.
