Usually, I don’t pick up calls from numbers I don’t know, but seeing this had an Oswestry area code made me answer. Then a recorded voice came on warning about some dodgy activity on my card, mentioning things like an Amazon buy and a foreign transfer. Considering I’d put some cash in the bank and also moved money online earlier that day, I decided to listen through. Still, it was pretty clear it was a con: the message was automated, didn’t mention my name or any specific card or bank details. I didn’t press any options and hung up straight away.
