Isn’t it possible for any phone number to be duplicated, especially by those dodgy scammers? I don’t get why so many folks are pinning it on Kings College Hospitals. Plenty of the calls did sound legit to me. Plus, a few people got letters or texts afterwards since KCH couldn’t get through on the phone at all!

Got a call from this number around 1 in the morning, twice in a row. My phone’s on Do Not Disturb but lets calls through if the same person rings twice quickly. Got a call from an Orpington number but didn’t answer since I don’t know anyone from there. They left a message right after from a woman who sounded like she was from Beckenham Beacon. She said a letter sent to me on 9th January was returned and asked me to call back to update my address about a hospital appointment supposedly on 20th February. Sounds like a made-up story to me. I reckon they just wanted to see if my number was active and to get my address details, probably to sell the info later. Definitely looks like a scam.

I received a call on WhatsApp from someone inquiring if I happened to be the father of a girl named Julia or something along those lines. I promptly informed them that they had dialled a wrong number. Almost immediately, the same woman, who had a noticeable foreign accent, called me again and asked if this was indeed the wrong number. I've since blocked the number. As a 78-year-old bachelor without any offspring, I found the whole situation quite dubious. Just didn't sit right with me.

Not 100% sure but this looks like it might be one of those spoofing scams. The number showing up can be totally faked by the caller, and scammers can basically take over numbers that belong to real people or places. I can’t imagine why an appointments team from any of the hospitals mentioned would be ringing me. Plus, I got the call on my work phone and I’m NHS staff, so it just seems fishy.

Probably the PRU Lock’s Bottom. The caller claimed to be a doctor and asked about my mum’s accident, even gave one detail that was right. Then I got another call from someone different who wanted to talk to my mum, said he was in ‘bones & fractures’. He really should have known she’s in hospital. I got annoyed and asked if I could ask something, but he just hung up. Tried to reach the switchboard to check the number, no luck. Got another missed call today, no voicemail. UPDATE - The switchboard has now confirmed it’s a number used for booking appointments.

I let this call slip by and tried to return it, but sadly, there was no response on the other end. Initially, I had a hunch it could be the Princess Royal Hospital since I’d just had a procedure over the weekend. A quick search online suggested it was indeed them. So, I contacted the hospital directly, only to find out from the operator that it wasn’t them at all. Apparently, several others had also been calling in, mistakenly believing it was about their appointments. How utterly frustrating!
