Got a robocall claiming to be from "BT tech support" with an American accent warning that my internet would be cut off within an hour because of some viruses. Bit odd since I’m actually with Virginmedia. I hit '1' to speak to BT support and ended up spending about half an hour on the line while my Windows 7 decided to install the latest updates - gave him plenty of time to wait. He made me do all the usual checks to prove my PC was "infected," then asked me to visit a sketchy site and download software. I said no way, told him I didn’t trust scammers. Next, he passed me to a "supervisor" who pushed the same stuff. When I asked for proof they were legit, the call got cut off. The local code (01687) is from Mallaig, a wee town in the Highlands that seems to be turning into the go-to spot for dodgy tech support calls.

Got a call today around 11.54am. Yesterday, a different number rang me, 01687598473, and on Monday, I got some message saying our internet would be cut off by midday. Tried dialling 141 but couldn’t find any number to call back. People don’t seem to get how stressful these scam calls are, especially for those with health problems. Got two calls earlier from a recorded voice warning my BT service would be cut off today, but I'm not even with BT! I figured it was dodgy straight away. There was a long silence between the message too. Best thing to do is just hang up, don’t press any buttons or try calling back. Got a call from some dodgy lot pretending to be from BT Broadband, pretty much an automated voice. Had a bit of fun by playing along. They claimed there was some kind of blockage messing up my internet. Then they wanted me to check my router light colours. When I asked 'which light exactly shouldnt be blinking?' they kinda stumbled and just named every colour - green, blue, red, yellow - all of them! Honestly, such an obvious con and really rubbish at it too.

Got two calls from this number today, once just before 10 and again about half an hour later, both times saying they were from BT. I hung up straight away and have blocked the number now. You’d think with the way the government’s handling things, they’d be cracking down on scam calls like this by now.
