My mum's getting the same calls, from exactly the same number. She picks up but no one's there. It's been going on like this, like three or four times daily.

This evening alone they called me 4 times in just 2 hours, and I also got two calls earlier this morning. Every time I answer, there’s no one there, then the call just ends. It’s been going on for a few days now and honestly, it’s really starting to annoy me.

My mum, who’s quite elderly, keeps getting calls from this same number. They keep ringing over and over until someone picks up, but when you answer, there’s no one there and the line just goes dead. Sometimes they call back using slight variations of the number like: 004444168578963 or 000168578963. I’m also guessing this unknown “out of area” number might be linked to them too. It’s not just annoying, it’s really unsettling for her and makes her feel quite anxious. She’s got heart failure and was recently told she has cancer, so it’s all the more upsetting. What do these callers hope to get from doing this? Seems like they must have some motive, but how can we get to the bottom of it? Any advice would be massively appreciated, thanks.
