This person rang up saying they were with BT and claimed someone was illegally using my internet. They asked me to get on my computer so they could help secure it. I asked for a contact number in case I needed to ring them back, and they gave me 02016281, but that number isn’t real. So I dialled 1471 and got the actual number I’m now trying to check. Do you reckon this could be legit?

Someone rang me saying they were from BT and claimed someone was using my internet without permission. They asked me to get on my computer so they could help secure it. I asked for a callback number and they gave me 02016281, but when I checked, that number wasn’t real. Then I dialled 1471 to find the last number that called me, and that’s what I’m now trying to figure out. Could it be a scammer messing about?
