I ignored the call when it came through. Later, I got a voicemail from someone saying they were Middlesbrough Council and that I owe council tax. Then, out of nowhere, a text popped up saying the exact same thing. Thing is, I’ve never lived in Middlesbrough, and I’m up to date with my taxes, so this definitely smells like a scam to me.

I got a missed call and they left a voicemail saying I owed money on my council tax and to ring them back on that same number. I was certain I’d paid everything, so I looked up the number online. It took me to a site that pretended to be Middlesbrough Council, but when I looked closer, it seemed dodgy, especially since the word "sandbox" was part of the website’s name. It definitely didn’t feel legit.
