I told him about the Data Protection Act from '98 or something like that, but he just carried on asking for my first name (which I refused to give). One easy way to shut them down is to ask how much they’re willing to pay for your personal info. Personal data isn’t free, it’s got value, and data protection rules should always be respected.

The people on the phone were really pushy and rude, trying hard to keep me talking. It’s an Indian call centre pretending to be based in the UK using some online tool. They told me my computer had a virus and offered to sort it out, but once you let them control your PC remotely, they get access to all your private bank info. Seriously risky stuff!

Received a call from this number earlier; the voice seemed to have an African accent, though I can’t say for certain. I reckon this call originated from an Indian call centre; they were quite insistent and even mentioned my husband by his name! When I informed them that he wasn't around, they just said, "You'll do!" Once again, got a call from an asian guy who said his name was "Peter". He wanted to ask me a few questions. He already knew my name but i never gave anything away. Got a call from an Asian gentleman looking for someone else, I told him he’d got the wrong number. Then he insisted it was right, even spelled out a surname, but I said that wasn’t me. He then got a bit more firm, saying he definitely had the right number and person. I just told him he was mistaken and he then ended the call.

Honestly, I've reached the point where I just yell expletives at them, but it seems to have no impact whatsoever - they just keep calling, and even more frequently! I've lodged a complaint with Ofcom, but I doubt anything will come of it. I'm seriously contemplating disconnecting my landline altogether, as I can't handle the daily interruptions while caring for someone who is critically ill around the clock. these guys installed some dodgy software and got hold of my mum's phone number, then rang her up trying to scam her. they claimed they could sort out her computer remotely, and she said they actually took control before she noticed and quickly ended the call. the next day they called again, this time talking to my dad, saying they had pictures of him, my mum, me, and my boy. they even said something about the manchester attacks, which freaked my mum out so much we had to report it to the cops.

I've had the same number ring me four times today, all in search of a Mr Dean. I’ve made it clear that I’m not him and requested they stop bothering me, but to no effect. What can one do to put an end to this incessant nuisance? Is there truly no one who can intervene in this situation?

I keep getting calls from Indian telemarketers, sometimes three times a day, asking for someone who doesn’t even reside at my address. When I request to be removed from their list, they bluntly inform me that it can't be done. All they seem interested in is pestering me for the homeowner's details and they don’t hold back with their barrage of questions. Their manner is utterly obnoxious; they raise their voices, are quite offensive, and tend to argue back.
