They seem armed with names, addresses, mobile numbers, and even landlines, alongside a stash of other personal info. It’s no wonder that countless elderly and vulnerable individuals find themselves feeling uneasy and bewildered after receiving frequent calls like these, often three or four times a day, where the caller not only requests but sometimes seems to insist on, or even retrieves, sensitive details like credit and debit card info.

I just experienced a call that abruptly ended on me. It seems BT has introduced a new "choose to refuse" feature. If you dial 14258 followed by ##, you can block unwanted calls. Definitely a worthwhile addition!

I responded again with a "hello," only for them to call my name out even louder. At this point, I felt compelled to return the shout, so I yelled "hello" back at the top of my lungs. I reckon this call originated from an Indian call centre; they were quite insistent and even mentioned my husband by his name! When I informed them that he wasn't around, they just said, "You'll do!" I politely thanked them and swiftly hung up. From now on, I’ll leave my phone on answerphone mode to filter out any dodgy calls and only entertain the legitimate ones.

I have a strong feeling he rang me yesterday from a withheld number – the voice was remarkably similar to the one that previously contacted me. He claimed to be from the BT Technical Team. This number has dialled my phone twice within a minute. The first time, my answering machine picked up, but they hung up before leaving a message. It’s only a matter of time before someone tracks you down and knows where you’re lurking, so you’d best be cautious. Your day of reckoning is looming, and there won’t be any escape for you. I have mates who are quite skilled at digging up information, and trust me, they’ll uncover your details sooner rather than later.

I keep getting calls from Indian telemarketers, sometimes three times a day, asking for someone who doesn’t even reside at my address. When I request to be removed from their list, they bluntly inform me that it can't be done. All they seem interested in is pestering me for the homeowner's details and they don’t hold back with their barrage of questions.
