I got a call from someone claiming they were with the council, trying to sell advertising space in some planning publication. Turns out, there's no such magazine linked to the council. They'll happily take your cash, send you a copy with your ad, and demand payment for a two year advert in advance. Pretty dodgy if you ask me.

I can confirm there's no such magazine, as local authorities don’t produce one. They pressure you into paying for two years’ worth of advertising in advance, promising to send you a magazine featuring your ad. Yet, lo and behold, it turns out that's the only edition they ever print!
