Got a call on the 15th of July when I wasn’t in, but they didn’t bother leaving a voicemail. Pretty clear this was just another dodgy scammer pretending to be from Medway, though judging by the poor English and names like Megan and Michael, it’s probably a bunch of Asian crooks, maybe from Mumbai. I’d like to believe no one falls for their tricks, but they wouldn’t waste their time if they didn’t manage to scam folks now and then. Honestly, they deserve a long stretch in prison.

About ten minutes ago, a woman called claiming to be Megan from Microsoft. I told her I wasn’t interested right away. She kept pushing me to switch on my PC so she could supposedly fix some hackers downloading stuff. I declined politely and hung up. Then she rang me back four times, demanding to know why I’d ended the call. I told her straight it was a scam. She got really annoyed after that. I mentioned I work in IT, but she just asked again for remote access to my computer. When I asked her for her full name so I could report her to the police, she either couldn’t or wouldn’t say.

Totally a scam, claiming to be Microsoft! They refused to give me a number to ring back. When I asked about my email, they couldn’t say. They told me they were going to block every computer in my house unless I went all the way to Reading to get it sorted. They asked me to press some keys so they could get into my PC - dodgy as hell.

When I asked where she was calling from, she said Reading. I told her that was a complete fib and they should be ashamed to try this trick. Then she just hung up on me.

Some woman called claiming to be from Microsoft, saying she had some reports from my PC and wanted me to switch it on. I refused and ended the call straight away. She phoned back, asking why I’d hung up and kept insisting she was from Microsoft. I told her I wasn’t interested and hung up again. Got a call supposedly from Microsoft, but it was clearly a con. The woman said her name was Megan, though I really doubt that. She claimed hackers were involved in some money laundering scheme and tried to get control of my computer. I told her no and hung up. She called me back a couple more times after that. Then she warned me that my Microsoft licence would be taken away - I just told her I'd report her for harassment.

I usually get suspicious of any calls before 8.30 in the morning, and this one was no different. There was this mumbling from a distant call centre about my computer, but I couldn’t make sense of most of it (hard of hearing here). Couldn’t be bothered, so I just ended the call. I received a call supposedly from Microsoft Cyber Security based in Reading. However, when I asked about the current weather conditions there or the name of the local council leader, they were strangely evasive. The caller was incredibly tenacious, keeping me on the line for a whopping 14 minutes! They finally disconnected when I suggested they were racking up quite a bill for the call. They even attempted to argue that I was the one incurring the costs!

Got a call from someone saying they were with Microsoft. I told them I didn’t trust it and was about to end the call, then I did. They called back asking why I’d gone, so I repeated that I didn’t believe them and was going to hang up again. I did. Another call came through, and I told them if they really were Microsoft, this felt like harassment, but if not, then they were scammers. I said I'd hang up, and I did. So, someone rang me claiming to be from Windows security and asked if I was Mrs ... using my husband’s name. Instead of being blunt and correcting her, I just said yes but mentioned that I don’t actually use Windows, so it felt like a scam to me, and I ended the call. Then, she called back not long after, sounding pretty annoyed at being called out and started arguing with me about it. I just hung up again. No more calls have come through since then.
