I had a ring from this number on my mobile today. Here's my usual tactic... I don't pick up calls unless they’re from someone saved in my contacts or if I can see their name pop up. I tend to just allow it to ring away. If they decide to leave a voicemail, then fair enough. But if they don't, I don't hesitate to block them straightaway. I follow the same approach with my home phone too. If the message turns out to be "The caller has ended the call," I automatically assume it's dodgy and take the same blocking action.

Someone called me with a strong Indian accent but said she had an English name. She asked for the previous owner of my phone, a woman who hasn’t used it in over 12 years. I told her the person had passed away, and then she began trying to get me to answer her questions! When I asked who she wanted to speak to, she claimed I was Mr Xoxx (the same name as the old phone owner). I said no, it’s not me, and she just hung up. This number has called me several times now, so I’ve flagged it as harassing.
