Got a letter from Avon and Somerset Compliance Enforcement Office, phone number 01633 645 112. I checked it online and apparently it’s been flagged as a scam. Then I looked up the payment phone number 0300 790 9901 and it’s been searched over 17,000 times! The letter looks pretty convincing though.

Hey, can someone please explain what's going on? I've noticed some money being taken directly from my wages by HMCTS and I never gave permission. I checked with payroll and they said it’s a company called essentials finance with this number 01633645112 taking the cash. But if it’s a scam, how come they can pull money straight from my pay? Tried calling the court but they just had no idea whats happening. Would really appreciate any advice, cheers!

Got a letter recently from this number 01633645112 telling me to pay £527.90 to Avon and Somerset court, supposedly a fine I owe. Thing is, I’ve never even been to Avon and Somerset! Honestly feels like a proper scam to me, very dodgy and dangerous. Watch out, don’t fall for it!

Received a letter from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight magistrates court with this number on it, it shows Poole BH15 2NS as the address, not Newport or anywhere in Somerset. Bit confusing really.

I got a letter from the Isle of Wight and Hampshire magistrates court saying I missed a court date and now owe a fine of £422.75, which must be paid within 10 days. When I called, they sent me back to Southampton magistrates court who told me to expect a form to submit financial details to reconsider the fine. Thing is, I never got any confirmation about the hearing date or time, just a phone call, which makes it tricky if you want a solicitor to attend in person. Now, out of the blue, I’ve had another letter from West Hampshire magistrates court saying the original case was actually handled by Portsmouth magistrates. It's strange that Southampton city council passed their fine to Portsmouth, not Southampton court. No wonder neither the collection agency, Hampshire and Isle of Wight magistrates, nor West Hampshire magistrates court manage to send out proper documents before these court fines get made.

Got a letter from the Avon and Somerset compliance enforcement office about a court matter and some warrant for my arrest or a debt of £356.67. Problem is, I’m not owing anything. The letter had a number from Newport, South Wales - 01633 645112. It looked super legit, with even a leaflet about financial assistance enclosed. Proper scary since they had my full name, address and date of birth on there. I’ve already reported it to the police to get them to look into possible fraud.

It's CLEARLY a con! Got messages from hmcts saying I'd messed up with a criminal court fine and telling me to ring 01633645112 to sort it out. Do NOT ring that number, it's 100% dodgy. I've already told hmrc's fraud squad about it. Watch out everyone!

So, just to let you know, 01633645112 is actually a real HMCTS number. We had a fine from the DVLA last year, but they accidentally sent the letters to our old house by mistake. We had to do a Statutory Declaration because of that, but thankfully, we only paid the original fine and avoided the higher fees. Hope this helps!

I got a letter from Nottingham Magistrates Court with this number on it, but it doesn’t seem like the legit court number. I already sorted and paid the fine back in April 2021. The website they gave for online payment also looked a bit off, so I’m pretty sure the letter was dodgy.

Watch out, this is definitely a scam! I got a letter supposedly from the Avon and Somerset Compliance and Enforcement Office. When I rang the number, they claimed it was about a speeding fine from two years ago. Like many others, I’d never had any previous letters. The woman on the phone was quite convincing, saying not to stress if I hadn’t received any earlier notices. She told me to call another number to get a Self Declaration Form which I had to fill out and send back, but the amount they wanted was a whopping £811. Apparently, that’s the charge for everyone. I reported it to Action Fraud, who are now looking into it, and also contacted the actual Avon & Somerset Speeding Enforcement Unit. They confirmed no fines were outstanding and said it’s a scam. I even sent them the letter I got. Don’t fall for it and definitely don’t pay!

I got a letter supposedly from Avon and Somerset Compliance Enforcement Office saying I owe £355 for some fine I never knew about. When I tried ringing the Avon and Somerset courts to check, the phone line just wouldn’t connect. It feels like a scam to me, so I’ve sent an email to the Police and now I’m waiting to hear back. I’ve checked my licence online and there’s nothing on it at all. Honestly, the last time I was even near Somerset was way back in the early 80s. I’ll post an update once the Police get back to me.

Definitely not a scam in my case. I got a letter saying I owed £811, and the contacts on the letter matched up perfectly with those from gov.uk. When I called to ask about it, they mentioned it was most likely a speeding ticket since I apparently got 6 points added to my driving licence. They also said I shouldn’t stress about it too much because they’re sorting out taking it directly from my benefits.

Today I ended up ringing the cops because my daughter got a letter saying she owed £350. Thing is, she's never even visited Avon and Somerset, and she owes nobody anything. I had a chat with a fraud officer who confirmed this is just a SCAM. Just wanted to warn everyone out there, this stuff is really stressful.

A voicemail came through from this number telling me to call back and mention ref no. 18016150c, said it’s urgent and to contact HQ. They didn’t give any further details. We’ve no debts or parking tickets to our name. If they call again, I’m not sure what to say since me and my wife are quite old and it’s a bit unsettling. Any advice would be appreciated, cheers.

Lately, ive been getting messages from HMCTS saying stuff like "Hi ...... you haven't paid your fine. Action will be taken. Call 01633645112 and quote ref .......I AS. Div 047" and then another one saying "Hi ...... your fine is overdue. A Warrant of Control might be issued which’ll cost you more. Contact 01633645112 quoting ........I AS Div.047. Ignore if already in touch." I’m pretty sure this is a scam because I have no clue what fine they’re on about, and I never got any letter or email explaining anything. If anyone knows what’s going on with this, please share. Thanks a lot!

This number belongs to Her Majesty's Court Services, specifically the branch based in South Wales. I’m actually someone awaiting compensation after winning a court case, so this is the department responsible for sorting out the payment. They’re defo not scammers, I’ve been in touch with them over the past few months and everything seems legit.

This number rang up my mum claiming that my lad needed to get in touch about some debts he supposedly had. They refused to give her any clear explanation but kept insisting it was urgent for him to call back and sort the payment into account number 16003384v. It’s really upset my mum, especially since both her and my dad aren’t well at the moment. These types should be reported ASAP before they take advantage of people who are already vulnerable. I recently got a letter from HMCTS saying I owe £490 and that they’ve informed my employer. The letter has my name with ‘Mr’ in front, and the employer’s name is covered in white-out, but the address matches up. It also has my National Insurance number on there. Is this some kind of scam?
