somebody claimed to be from bt openreach. they said my firewall and router were out of date but couldn't say since when. said i needed a replacement router for internet to work. gave me a new id code and asked about my devices - desktop, laptop, tablet and phone. they went step by step to explain what to do next. then i hung up and called bt myself to check if it was a scam.

The caller inquired about the devices I used and even provided a new ID number for the router while preparing to guide me through some supposed necessary steps. However, I decided to hang up and double-check with BT. They assured me it was a scam and reminded me that they consistently use the same 0800 number to reach out to customers.
