somebody claimed to be from bt openreach. they said my firewall and router were out of date but couldn't say since when. said i needed a replacement router for internet to work. gave me a new id code and asked about my devices - desktop, laptop, tablet and phone. they went step by step to explain what to do next. then i hung up and called bt myself to check if it was a scam.

Got a call supposedly from BT Openreach saying my firewall and router were outdated which was causing slow internet. They asked about my gadgets, then gave me some new router ID and seemed ready to guide me on the fixes...

But then they hung up. After that, I rang BT myself and they said it was a scam. They also mentioned they always contact customers using the same 0800 number.
