I received a dodgy phone call earlier, and it was a pre-recorded message purporting to be from Amazon. The voice told me that £399 was about to be taken from my account for an iPhone that I never ordered. It instructed me to hit ‘1’ if I wanted to dispute the charge. I can only imagine that pressing ‘1’ would simply funnel me into some pricey helpline, racking up the charges as I waited. It’s such a con! They’re just after a way to squeeze more money out of unsuspecting folks like me.
