On Sunday 11th September, I got a call around 5 past 5 in the afternoon. When I answered, you could hear a bunch of people chatting in the back, like some call centre or something. I said hello, but the person on the other end just stayed silent and then abruptly hung up. Honestly, that was pretty cheeky! After checking the comments here, I’m actually quite relieved I didn’t get roped into talking with whoever it was.

Got a call today from someone claiming to be from Domestic & General about white goods insurance - total scam! Saw a post dated 03/09 not far back explaining how to report these frauds to Action Fraud, so I’m defo going to report it. Good to have that info handy!

Got a call from 01621738929 claiming to be from some home appliance firm telling me my cooker warranty was up. Then they switched to saying they were from Homesense. I don’t even have any appliances with a warranty at all. Honestly, these sorts of companies should be put out of business.

So my mum, she’s quite old now, got a call from this exact number and decided to check who they were and if they’d been calling anyone else, turned out they had. The bunch of scammers actually said her surname wrong, which was hilarious, so she just told them they had the wrong number and ended the call. Proud of her for spotting that, guess I raised her right!

Received a call earlier today from a woman, presumably from the Sub-Indian region, at precisely 3:00 pm on the 11th of September, 2022. She requested to chat with my mum, to which I informed her that my mother had passed away. Then she queried who I was, but I insisted on keeping that information private. When she probed further, asking if I was her daughter, I reiterated that I wasn't going to share any personal details. She ended the conversation by wishing me a good day before cutting the call. I'm certain these sorts of scams will resurface. I've gone ahead and reported the incident to the Information Commissioner's Office, specifically the Nuisance Calls division.

Today, 11th September 2022 around 3pm, I got a call from a woman with an accent from the Indian subcontinent. She wanted to talk to my mum, but I told her she’s passed away. Then she asked who I was, but I refused to say. She tried to see if I was her daughter, and again I just wouldn’t give any details. She said goodbye and hung up. I’m sure they’ll ring back at some point. I’ve already reported it to the ICO under nuisance calls.

These lot are total scam artists, ringing from overseas but pretending it's a local UK line. I like wasting their time to cut down the number of calls, and sometimes it's pretty amusing - my personal best is over an hour, a sort of unofficial Manchester record! I ask questions like, "Will the warranty cover a Woolworths CON13-5634 ironing press? And if it busts since it's no longer made, what model would you swap it for? I get it, you’d give a different brand but same type, but which exactly? Not every model suits wool fabric, you know. Hang on a sec, let me grab a pen..."

Got another one of those scam calls today, this time pretending to be from Domestic and General. We've got a policy with them, but these lot kept ringing non stop - about ten times in the last week! My husband finally lost his temper and told them to stop bothering us. After that, they went and left the phone handset off the hook for like an hour, so we couldn’t even make calls ourselves. Just a heads up to everyone to watch out for these dodgy calls!

They keep ringing me about some extended warranty deal, switching up loads of different numbers so you can't block them properly. I've told them nicely to take me off their list, but it makes no difference, they just keep buzzing.
