They keep ringing my landline but hang up the moment I pick up. Could this be some sort of scam? I’m guessing whoever’s behind it earns a cut from the call fees, which my phone company probably charges me for. It’s hard to believe someone’s just randomly phoning and hanging up for fun. Maybe it’s a trick where BT or whichever network is used actually pays these callers to rack up phone bills, splitting the costs across loads of unsuspecting people to justify their expensive tariffs. Or it’s designed so most folks ring back, and then bam - you’re hit with a 28p minimum charge, even if no one answers. Now picture hundreds or thousands of those calls every week on multiple phones - it quickly adds up to a seriously large sum. Even just 1,000 return calls could earn the network £280, which is mental money, especially if you’ve got a team ringing all day long.
