Phone number ☎️ 01619648826 👆 is reported as a scam involving callers pretending to be from Virgin Media or Microsoft. They claim your computer is infected and guide you to perform certain tasks that show normal system logs but are described as evidence of hacking. They then direct you to remote desktop sites where they gain access to steal personal data and demand a ransom. Callers may have strong accents and use seemingly local UK numbers to deceive victims. 2 yearsBeware, this is a fraudulent operation! They present themselves as representatives from Virgin Media and go on to claim that your computer is infected with a virus that’s causing it to run sluggishly. They’ll want you to confirm the colour of your router’s LED and instruct you to press the Windows key along with 'R' to access the Run dialogue, where you’ll be directed to type "eventvwr". What they’ll show you there are merely commonplace errors, not any signs of hacking as they’d have you believe. From there, they’ll send you to dodgy sites like https://kodv.info or similar ones for remote access, at which point they can pilfer your personal data, set up fraudulent accounts in your name, and demand a ransom. They’re also capable of siphoning funds from your online bank account and PayPal if you’ve stored your passwords. These crooks might even clone your SIM card, rendering two-factor authentication pointless. Your best bet is to hang up, or if you fancy a bit of banter, tell them that you’ve logged in and can see them lounging about in Manchester while they scam innocent folks across the UK. This is a significant scam operation, with many operatives working from a call centre. It's outrageous that such activities are occurring here in the UK. It’s also worth noting that the operators might be based elsewhere, possibly in the Middle East given their accents, yet they’re using a Manchester landline number as a disguise to deceive their targets.Virgin MediaManchesterUKMiddle East2 yearsI received a rather dubious call from someone with a thick Asian accent, purporting to be from Microsoft. They insisted that my laptop had been compromised by hackers. When I nonchalantly mentioned that I didn’t possess a computer (a wee white lie), they proceeded to inquire about other gadgets like my phone and tablet. It dawned on me that Microsoft typically deals with Windows on computers, not on other devices. When I requested that they send the details to my email, they abruptly disconnected the call. I find it thoroughly amusing to toy with these types of callers!MicrosoftSubmit Your Own Report (0161 964 8826)
