I received a rather unusual phone call from someone purporting to represent the insurance department of ATMs at the number 01618540052. He not only knew my name but also my vehicle registration, which was rather unsettling. To add insult to injury, he was extremely impolite during our conversation. I eventually hung up, as he insisted that he was affiliated with my insurance aftercare. It's just a disgraceful bunch of scammers and tricksters, really!

Got a call on my phone from someone talking about a recent car crash. They even mentioned my insurance provider, which was a bit creepy. They started this tale about the other driver wanting to sue for ‘small pain’. I asked questions and they just hung up. I contacted my insurer and they said no claim had been filed by anyone, and told me to ignore those calls as they handle everything. This is just like other comments I’ve seen - I keep getting phone calls about a small crash my wife supposedly had, and they claim to be from an insurance firm. They call quite a bit, and there’s always a lot of noise in the background. Most times I pick up, they just hang up straightaway. I’m so fed up with these calls! They keep ringing me, sometimes like four or five times a day, asking to talk to my husband about an accident in my car last month. Thing is, it’s my car and there was no accident at all, so I’m certain it’s not my insurance company. Feels like they’re just spamming loads of numbers hoping to catch someone who actually had a crash and then scam them. Sort of reminds me of those Dyson Hoover calls - I don’t even have one, but they keep phoning and saying they’ll take me off their list. It’s proper annoying!

While parked up at Tesco, my car was unfortunately bumped into. When I returned, there was no sign of anyone nearby to explain what had happened. As it’s a company vehicle, I passed the matter over to the firm’s insurance, who are now sorting out the repairs. This afternoon, I received a call from a chap claiming to be associated with the number 1618544845. He stated that the "other party" involved in the incident was now expressing some sort of ailment and had other grievances… I lost my temper, as there was absolutely no other person involved in this incident, or at least none who stuck around to take responsibility for damaging my car! They have my name and vehicle registration, and feign knowledge of other personal details, but it's all just a cheap trick to fish for information. If you manage to speak to one of these scammers, jot down the time and any information they provide. Resist the urge to divulge anything personal, and firmly ask them to take your number off their list-though don’t be surprised if they ignore your request and keep ringing you. It might also be worth reporting the number to the Telephone Preference Service.

Just a quick note to add to my previous thoughts - I'm a tad sceptical about flagging this number with the TPS. When you bring a number to their attention, you're essentially handing over information that they're likely to pass on to the number’s owner. This means the very individuals we're trying to shield ourselves from might get their hands on our details, which could inadvertently assist them in their dodgy dealings! I’ve had these dodgy numbers from Manchester ringing me non-stop, even though I’ve blocked them before. They just pop up again with a new number every time. I don’t bother answering now, just see the Manchester dialling code and hang up right away. All this started after a small car bump almost a year ago, which I wasn’t even injured in - cheers to Admiral for apparently passing my info about.
