Twice today, my elderly parents, aged 87 and 95, got calls in Edinburgh telling them they were facing arrest for some alleged crime. Naturally, it really distressed them both. Honestly, these sorts of calls should be blocked straight away.

0161 8509314 Got two messages waiting on my answerphone when I got back in Edinburgh, both claiming to be from HMRC. They mentioned some sort of warrant and told me to press 1 to speak to a case officer. Just like others, I ignored it, deleted the messages, blocked the number and rang the HMRC phishing hotline like someone here suggested. Hopefully they can do something to stop all these scams soon.

Got a couple of calls from this number today, said it was HMRC from Edinburgh. They were going on about some arrest warrant or something, which stressed me out. A firm called Orbtalk from Brighton, run by an Indian owner, is apparently selling this number and loads more. They clearly know what’s going on. Big shoutout to whoever mentioned reporting this number to HMRC for phishing - I’ve just done it myself. It was super straightforward, and I’d really advise anyone else who’s got one of these dodgy calls, which can be quite scary, to do the same. Don’t ever pick up or respond to these calls, they’re definitely scams, like the ones that have been all over the news recently. I’ve also lodged a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office and would suggest others do that as well.
