My 92-year-old mother received a call yesterday from someone who claimed that a lawsuit had been filed against her. Fortunately, I happened to be at her house and answered the call, promptly hanging up. I can't help but wonder what would have happened if she had answered it herself. It's truly despicable how these scammers target and frighten vulnerable elderly people. There must be measures in place to prevent this from happening! My mother has even signed up for the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), so how are these calls still getting through?

01618508494 - Just like others have mentioned, this number rang up my elderly folks who could’ve easily got scared and fell for it, thank goodness I answered. Can't get my head around why the phone companies can't track down these calls that spoof this number and nab the scammers. If they're calling from abroad, why not just block the whole number completely? The fraudsters would have to pick a different fake number but after a few days, when enough people complain, it’d get blocked again. Properly frustrating stuff.

Got a call like that too, saying there was a warrant out for me over unpaid debts, and they claimed an audit found issues from 1995 to 2015, saying I owed £1,945.00. This guy 'Officer Jim Cook' told me if I hung up without paying, they’d file papers straight away and if I ended up in court and lost, I could be hit with fees as high as £96,000.00. I just cut the call off and rang the police who confirmed it was a scam. Also reported it to National Fraud for good measure.

Today, I received a recorded message on my landline answerphone from this specific number. Curiously, when I attempted to return the call, there was just a recorded message with no identification, instructing me to leave a message. It seems like a scam! To add to the strangeness, around the same time, I received an anonymous call on my mobile phone, asking to speak with my daughter about the Department for Work and Pensions. It's alarming because my daughter is quite young, and I have no clue how they knew her name or managed to obtain my number. Furthermore, they even tried to disagree with me during the conversation, so I promptly ended the call.

This number just rang my 76 year old mum and proper shook her up. They were saying she owed the tax office over £500, total scam. Thankfully, my mum wasn’t daft enough to hand over any bank details. I’ve reported it to the fraud team now, hopefully they can crack down and stop this happening to others.

Got a call today from abroad saying HMRC are taking me to court, and then another one from 0161 8508494 with the exact same story. They’re really on my case, haha. Not falling for that at all. Also gave my 84 year old mum a ring to make sure she’s aware of this scam too.

Just got one of those robo calls telling me the tax office is taking me to court. At first I freaked out, then I chatted with the police fraud team online who told me to fill out a form to report it. I tried but couldn’t get the form done, so I gave up. Feels like these scams are aimed at older folks who trust easily.

He spoke in a very official tone, claiming to be from the HRMC..( Recorded Message ). Obviously, I hung up straight away. If I’d picked up, he probably would have told me I was owed a Tax Rebate and then tried to get my bank info.

Got a call like this too, some supposed HMRC warning that I was being taken to court and to press 1. Proper shook at first, but then it hit me - there’s no way they wouldn’t have sent any letters about it beforehand. Makes you wonder how many folks, especially those who aren’t sure about these things, might fall for it!

My mum's been getting calls from this number a few times recently. With my dad having passed away not long ago, we've been busy dealing with all the money stuff and taxes, so these calls have been stressing her out quite a bit. Thankfully, she checked with me before answering properly, which was a relief. It just goes to show how easy it is for older folks to get caught out like this.

I used to work for HMRC and trust me, if there’s ever an issue with your taxes or tax credits, they’ll always send you a letter explaining what’s wrong first. They don’t just ring you up out of the blue unless you’ve given them permission to do so. Honestly, this call is definitely a scam.

Got a second call supposedly from HMRC this morning. First time they gave me a number to ring back, but this one told me to press 1 to chat with my case worker because they’re apparently 'taking legal action' against me. Called at 9:43 am and left a voicemail since no one picked up.

They claimed to be calling from HMRC and mentioned their unsuccessful attempts to reach you. They mentioned the existence of a lawsuit against you and urged you to press 1 in order to speak with your case worker. Please be aware that this call was automated and occurred today, on the 6th of July 2016. Additionally, a similar call was received yesterday, but it appeared on the caller ID as an international number with no identifiable number. It is important to note that this is indeed a scam, so please do not press 1.
