I got two calls from 02081149224 in like less than an hour, both times this message was the same, saying there’s a case against me and to press 1 to talk to the case officer. I’m a pensioner and don’t want to be scared by these dodgy calls. Someone really needs to put a stop to this nonsense!

Got a call from 0161 850 7546 saying they were from HMRC and that I was being taken to court over unpaid taxes - I just laughed and ended the call. Good thing I’m not an elderly person who might’ve got scared stiff by that sort of thing.

My elderly grandma got a call from these idiots claiming to be from HMRC, gave her some fake reference number about a warrant saying she owes over £3000 in tax from way back in 1990. It’s obviously a con, but it really upset her cos they kept threatening to freeze her bank and take her to court. Had the exact same thing, got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC at 5:12pm. I was certain it was a scam straight away. There’s so many of these calls nowadays, it’s hard to trust anyone over the phone. The worst part is there’s loads of people who could get tricked into it, probably about money like the “case worker” was saying. Just like a few others have said, I got a recorded call saying it was from Inland Revenue telling me I was being taken to court (should’ve known then, it’s HMRC these days…). I wasn’t thinking straight and panicked, so I pressed 1, but there was nothing on the other end and then the call cut off. Absolutely fuming now. I’ve reported that number to the Information Commissioner’s Office - you can do it yourself at https://ico.org.uk/concerns/marketing/spam-texts-and-nuisance-calls/. The form’s really simple to fill out. If they get enough complaints about the same number, they’ll take action and sometimes even fine them. But we all need to report it for anything to happen, so come on folks, do your bit!

They claimed to be from "Inland Revenue and Customs", which isn’t the actual name of the department and wouldn’t be how they’d introduce themselves. Like another person mentioned, they ought to already have your National Insurance number. Plus, HMRC usually contacts you through a letter first. Best just to ignore it.

I've been getting calls like this too. One time, it sounded like an office in the background but no one actually said anything, so I just ended the call quick. My elderly mum, who’s 81 and disabled, got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC today. Luckily, she didn't answer quick enough and it went to voicemail. I honestly can’t imagine what would’ve happened if she had spoken to them. She was really shaken and confused, and I worry she might’ve given them information. I had to leave work early just to go and settle her down! How on earth can these scumbags keep doing this pretending they’re from the government? It’s unbelievable!!! And the TPS scheme? Might as well be a chocolate teapot!

Some bloke claiming to be from HMRC saying I'm getting sued. Total scam, and really worrying for the elderly or those who've just lost someone. Said he was calling from HMRC about some legal action. When I asked more questions, an Indian bloke picked up and asked for my case number. I said I didn’t have one, then he wanted my national insurance number. I told him they’d already have that if they truly called me, then he just ended the call. It was only after looking up the number that I realised it was a scam.

Oh yeah, I got one of those idiots ringing me up yesterday too. It was one of those robotic voices, a bit fuzzy at the start, saying they were from Customs & Revenue or something. They kept going on about legal action and told me to press ‘1’ to speak to some “case officer.” I get loads of calls like that trying to get me to press buttons, and they’re always scams, so I usually just ignore them. But this one felt really desperate, honestly made me chuckle out loud. So I just laughed, then ended the call straight away. Honestly, I'd tell anyone else to just have a bit of a laugh and hang up, no point wasting time on rubbish like that!

Got this same prerecorded call about some lawsuit twice already. It's really shocking how these scams are still allowed to go on without any action. If we know the number, surely BT can track it back and shut it down? This call is just trying to frighten people into handing over their info. Had a recorded call earlier today around 3.30pm saying I was facing a lawsuit and to tap button 1. An Indian bloke picked up, asked for my ‘Case Number’ then just hung up. I rang BT to see if this number was linked to scams - they didn’t recognise it and said it wasn’t a premium line. Luckily, this website showed me it’s from Manchester, so I’m pretty sure it’s dodgy. When I called the number back mentioning BT had tracked them, the call just cut off. If loads of us know about this site, why doesn’t BT seem to have a clue???

I found this website really helpful - when I first got the call I was quite anxious, but seeing that others have had the same scam happen to them has put me at ease a bit. I do wonder tho, what about older folks who don’t use the internet much? A lot of us are used to dodging the typical spam calls, but this one feels especially nasty.
