I received calls twice in quick succession from the number 02081149224, both times delivering a rather alarming message about a supposed case against me, instructing me to press 1 to talk to the case officer. As a senior citizen, I find it utterly concerning that individuals would stoop so low as to instill fear in others. It’s about time action is taken to prevent these distressing shenanigans!

My elderly grandma got a call from these idiots claiming to be from HMRC, gave her some fake reference number about a warrant saying she owes over £3000 in tax from way back in 1990. It’s obviously a con, but it really upset her cos they kept threatening to freeze her bank and take her to court. There’s so many of these calls nowadays, it’s hard to trust anyone over the phone. The worst part is there’s loads of people who could get tricked into it, probably about money like the “case worker” was saying. Got a call from this number, some robotic voice saying HMRC were taking me to court. I hung up straight away, didn’t sound right at all. Had a quick look online and sure enough, it was a scam. I reported it to Action Fraud.

They claimed to be from "Inland Revenue and Customs", which isn’t the actual name of the department and wouldn’t be how they’d introduce themselves. Like another person mentioned, they ought to already have your National Insurance number. Plus, HMRC usually contacts you through a letter first. Best just to ignore it.

Got a voicemail saying it was HMRC calling about some legal action against me and to press 1 to talk to my case worker. Total scam, for sure, but I can see how older folks or those who aren't so tech-savvy could really get scared by it. Honestly, they really need to get tough on these scammers once and for all.

I've been receiving similar calls myself. One of them sounded like it was from an office, but there was complete silence on the other end, so I decided to disconnect without wasting any time. Another call was a pre-recorded message claiming to be from HMRC, stating there was a lawsuit against me. Just ignore these! It’s nothing but a SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!!!!!!

My elderly mum, who’s 81 and disabled, got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC today. Luckily, she didn't answer quick enough and it went to voicemail. I honestly can’t imagine what would’ve happened if she had spoken to them. She was really shaken and confused, and I worry she might’ve given them information. I had to leave work early just to go and settle her down! How on earth can these scumbags keep doing this pretending they’re from the government? It’s unbelievable!!! And the TPS scheme? Might as well be a chocolate teapot!

Some bloke claiming to be from HMRC saying I'm getting sued. Total scam, and really worrying for the elderly or those who've just lost someone. This number’s been reported loads, why hasn't it been shut down? As soon as I caught on, I blocked it straight away. But these con artists obviously keep switching numbers.

Said he was calling from HMRC about some legal action. When I asked more questions, an Indian bloke picked up and asked for my case number. I said I didn’t have one, then he wanted my national insurance number. I told him they’d already have that if they truly called me, then he just ended the call. It was only after looking up the number that I realised it was a scam.

Absolutely the same experience! These utter muppets rang me up yesterday with an automated spiel that started off sounding all garbled. They were pretending to be from Customs & Revenue, claiming they were about to 'initiate legal proceedings against me'. I was supposed to press '1' to have a chat with my so-called 'case officer'. I've had a multitude of these daft calls before - totally obvious scams that I’ve simply brushed aside - but this one really reeked of panic and desperation! It was so absurd that I just burst into fits of laughter before hanging up. If I could give a tip to anyone else who receives such nonsense, it would be to laugh it off, hang up, and move on to things that truly matter! Cheers!

Got a voicemail pretty much the same, said it was HMRC and that I had a court case against me, told me to press 1 which I didnt and wouldnt. Ive got an elderly mum and she’d be terrified if she got a call like this. It’s so frustrating how these scammers keep pulling this stunt and just get away with it, nobody seems to do anything to stop it. And I’m on the TPS as well, but it’s clear that doesn’t mean much.

Got this same prerecorded call about some lawsuit twice already. It's really shocking how these scams are still allowed to go on without any action. If we know the number, surely BT can track it back and shut it down? This call is just trying to frighten people into handing over their info. Had a recorded call earlier today around 3.30pm saying I was facing a lawsuit and to tap button 1. An Indian bloke picked up, asked for my ‘Case Number’ then just hung up. I rang BT to see if this number was linked to scams - they didn’t recognise it and said it wasn’t a premium line. Luckily, this website showed me it’s from Manchester, so I’m pretty sure it’s dodgy. When I called the number back mentioning BT had tracked them, the call just cut off. If loads of us know about this site, why doesn’t BT seem to have a clue???

What an excellent resource this website is! When my phone rang, I felt a wave of concern washing over me, but discovering that others have encountered the same falsehood has put my mind at ease. However, I can't help but think about the older generation who might not be online. While many of us have become savvy to the typical nuisance calls, this particular scam is truly appalling.
