I’ve never come across HMRC scams till now. Yesterday, got a call with some recorded woman’s voice claiming HMRC was suing me, which left me totally confused and distracted from my work before my husband got back in the evening. Looking it up now, lots of people have reported that number. Seriously, how come Ofcom hasn’t done anything to shut it down yet?

So this bloke rang me, speaking really badly and sounding super dodgy, I asked where he was calling from and he claimed "1 Parliament Street, London". You could hear loads of other folks in the background also talking awful English. I told him straight up it was a scam and I was gonna report him before hanging up. Honestly, with so many people reporting calls from this number, how is it still running? Who knows how many gullible people have fallen for it! If HMRC wants to come after me for something I never did, they better come knock on my door themselves.

Got a call from a Manchester number earlier today with a recorded message claiming HMRC is taking legal action against me. They never said my name though. I hung up straight away because it sounded dodgy. I know HMRC always sends letters first, never calls like this. Our number is ex-directory, so it’s clearly been leaked or sold to some third party. With all the complaints about this number, can’t someone do something to block it?

Beware of this Inland Revenue con! They’re pretending there’s a lawsuit and try to lure you in by asking you to press one to chat with a supposed case handler. Best to hang up immediately. They're just after your credit card information, and you do not want to fall into their trap!

Got a call supposedly from HMRC saying they’re taking me to court and to press 1 to sort it out. I’m aware it’s a scam cos pressing 1 just hooks you into a pricey trap. I’ve blocked the number, but it’s pointless since they use loads of different 0161 numbers. No clue why they’re still allowed to operate. If your phone rings with an 0161 number, best thing is just don’t pick up.

Heads up about 01618508233 - it’s definitely a scam number. I reported it to BT, and they sorted me out with a free way to block calls - you need to activate 1572 through them first. Don’t bother with 1571 since it costs. What you do is call back the dodgy number, but don’t press any buttons, just hang up straight away. Then ring 1572 and pick the option to block the number. You can also use 1572 if you’re getting nuisance calls from private numbers, really handy.
