Got a call from someone called Alexander, claimed he was from the HMRC legal team. It was so noisy in the background - lots of inspectors apparently on similar investigations, helicopters buzzing overhead tracking you so you can’t run or they’ll seize your passport. Sounds a bit far-fetched, but with all the tracking tech like GCHQ supposedly have, how come these numbers stay active for more than a day without any crackdown? They’re not just after money, their threatening attitude could seriously scare elderly people.

Got a call on my work phone, it was some recorded message about HMRC having a case against us and told me to hit one to talk to the case handler. I pressed one and an Indian bloke picked up and asked if he could help me. I replied, "Not sure, you called me." Then he asked for my full name but when I only gave my first name, he just cut off the call! I tried ringing back and he ended the call straight away again. Definitely a scam!

Got a call from 01618507831 just now. Didn’t hit any buttons, like ‘press 1’ or anything, and nothing strange seemed to happen. Honestly, I’m not quite sure what the scam is or how it’s supposed to trick you. If I find out more, I’ll update here. But honestly, don’t get too worried about these calls, they probably ain’t as bad as some make them out to be.

Dont be fooled, this isnt really HMRC calling. Its a scam, so dont ever press 1 or engage. These scammers are just trying to scare folks and its getting out of hand. I reckon BT needs to step up and block these numbers asap. Make sure you tell your mates and anyone you know so they dont fall for it either. This kind of thing should definitely be reported to the cops as well.
