Got a recorded message playing twice telling me they were filing a lawsuit against me and to press one to talk to some case officer. I was a bit freaked out at first but then decided to Google it and saw loads of others saying it’s a dodgy scam. It’s really awful, especially if you’re older or not tech-savvy and don’t know what to do.

Oh yeah, total HMRC scam: I rang the bloke a few times after he asked if I could help. Told him I’m just trying to help *him*. Said something like, “It’s alright, you’re just having a bit of a tantrum,” cause he sounded pretty young. Told him straight, he’s doing the devil’s dirty work. Sad thing is, one day that evil will swallow him whole, the devil won’t want him no more and will just chuck him out like rubbish. If the poor sod’s not useful, he’s just a cheat and a liar. Hope he’s got a shred of conscience or God’s not gonna have mercy. I find it hilarious how cocky these evil people get, but their luck always runs out eventually. And there’s no hiding place after you die, mate! Told him things’ll get grim and he might end up jumping off some bridge. He just went quiet and hung up...

She struggled a bit with my surname but I let it slide. Then she started explaining the supposed lawsuit and asked me for my NI number. just got a call that began with a recorded message saying hmrc were gonna file a claim against me, press 1 for more info. when i answered, the person on the line sounded like they had an accent, maybe asian, not european though. they asked me to confirm my name, but i told them they must already know it since they called me. then they said their phone had just rung the other side. i wouldn’t give my name, and suddenly they got mad saying they’d call the police and i’d get arrested. then they just hung up on me.
