When I followed the prompt, I was greeted by an Asian gentleman who seemed rather uncertain while asking for my address. The mention of a lawsuit against my name sent me into a bit of a panic. Consequently, I found it prudent to reach out to HMRC to seek their guidance on the matter.

I received a rather quintessentially British voicemail, purporting to be from HMRC, which claimed they couldn't reach me and were supposedly "filing a lawsuit" against me. I couldn't help but find the American-style phrasing rather off-putting. The message prompted me to press 1 to connect with my "case officer," which felt rather silly since I was listening to a recorded message. Out of curiosity, I decided to ring back from a different phone after noticing the familiar Manchester area code. To my surprise, I was greeted with a non-British ringtone followed by an American-accented voice asking me to leave my details. I promptly hung up. I've encountered my fair share of scams over the years, but this particular one was a new addition to the list.
