Like loads of others have said, we’ve been getting loads of calls from folks pretending to be HMRC. Just a few weeks back, my parents were about to go away on holiday and right before they left, they got some threats saying if they didn’t pay up, the police would come that very day to make an arrest. Funny enough, the police told us they already know about this scam going around.

Got a ring from some supposed DOT official today, total HMRC scam. Honestly, these people deserve to have their nose hairs yanked out one by one, then their toenails pulled, and finally their teeth too. To top it off, make them munch on some pork scratchings! Yesterday, my mum, who’s 85, got three calls from the number 0161 850 5974. A recorded voice, a woman, claimed to be from HMRC and said there was some kind of legal action going on against her, asking her to press 1. Luckily, she’s pretty savvy about dodgy calls and didn’t fall for it. I looked up the number on the HMRC site and it’s definitely listed as a scam. I’ve reported it to Action Fraud, the National Fraud and Cyber Crime Reporting Centre, hoping they’ll crack down on it so others, especially older folk, won’t be tricked.
