Honestly, this automated call is downright annoying and feels a bit menacing too! I've gotten quite a few over the last few months. If I actually owed tax or was worried about mine or my partner’s situation, or maybe just lost someone close recently, then maybe "press 1 to chat with your case officer" would make sense. But this kind of thing is just nasty and should seriously be taken up with HMRC to stop it!

I received a rather unsettling call from this number, claiming to represent HMRC. My husband, who has been quite poorly and in hospital for the past three months, took the call. They insisted that he was in debt and threatened to dispatch the police if he didn’t pay up. Naturally, I decided to ring the number back. To my surprise, someone answered, claiming to be HMRC, but their accent was anything but British. When I expressed my doubts about the legitimacy of the call, he rudely told me to “shut my mouth” before hanging up. This whole situation is incredibly distressing - what sort of people stoop so low?

Got a call from someone with an Asian accent claiming to be from HMRC, saying they were about to take legal action against us. My missus answered, and because she has a heart problem, it really shook her up for the whole day. This kind of behaviour has to be halted, whether by the cops or the official HMRC fraud team. I seriously encourage everyone to report these dodgy calls so the authorities actually take notice. The amount of panic they cause could end up killing someone, it's that bad.

I’ve gotten this exact number ringing me a few times already. I always ignore it and never pick up. I’m on the TPS list but they keep calling anyway, so I guess they can’t be blocked or something? Feels like a waste of time!

Massive warning: don’t pick up or press any buttons, and definitely don’t ring them back. There’s no legal trouble if you just ignore their intimidating messages. They pretend to be HMRC officers and boast about arresting you right away for fake tax debts unless you pay straight away! These scammers are really pushy and use fear to trick people, especially the elderly, into handing over big amounts of cash. Lots of vulnerable folks have already fallen for this awful con.
