Somebody named Eliza Foster said she was ringing from HMRC. Sounded like it was some call centre in Asia, she just read stuff off a paper. I told her my name and she starts going on about a warrant for my arrest. Thing is, she dialled my work number, lol! I rang back and got this robotic American voice saying they were too busy to answer. So I left a message asking Eliza Foster to let me know the time I was getting nicked so I could prepare myself! Absolutely a SCAM, can’t believe people fall for this rubbish!

When I asked what it was about, I told him I already had a payment plan sorted. He then stated if I didn’t hand over my details, the plan would be cancelled! Absolutely mental! There’s no way I was handing anything over. Told him to stop being daft, and he just hung up. Seriously, something’s gotta be done about these calls - I get at least five bogus ones every single day!

Got a voicemail claiming HMRC's taken legal action, which threw me off since I regularly handle HMRC stuff for clients' estates, so I thought it might be legit. Rang back the 0161 number and straight away you could tell it was an Indian call centre. The guy on the line said his name was John Wilson - what a laugh. I received a rather suspicious automated phone call purporting to be from the tax office, claiming there was a legal case lodged against me concerning a visa or something similar. The message instructed me to press 1 to speak to a representative, so I did out of curiosity. Once connected, they repeated the same nonsense. I couldn't help but chuckle, informing them that I’m a 76-year-old and completely oblivious to such matters. Unsurprisingly, they ended the call abruptly. Received a call today (27th) from a number claiming to represent Her Majesty's Government. My caller ID displayed it as "International." To top it off, it was just a pre-recorded message. Thankfully, I’ve got a call blocker, so I’ve put a stop to it.

Avoid hitting 1 on the keypad, since it seems to redirect you to an expensive premium number. Best thing to do is call HMRC directly. Just like your bank would say, they never ring you up, they always send letters.
