Got a call from this number earlier today, around 2:38pm on 09/12/2016. It was some automated voice pretending to be from Her Majesty's Customs & Revenue, saying we're being sued or something like that. No one gave a name, just told me to press 1 to speak to a customs officer. I didn’t press anything. No one in my house has received any emails, letters or calls about being sued by anyone. Obviously just a scam number, using a Manchester dialling code. Best thing is to steer clear of it and maybe get your phone company to block it if they can. The dodgy number is 01618504599.

01618504599 is being used by the same awful people behind the 01618503938 calls. They ring with a recorded message about some tax prosecution stuff, just to scare folks into ringing them back. Then, as others have pointed out on this brilliant site, they try to scam you out of your cash by asking for iTunes vouchers. Honestly, these scammers are disgusting and should be taken to court for trying to cheat people. Perhaps the Watchdog programme could do a sting to catch them out?

I received a call claiming to be from HMRC, stating they were initiating some sort of report against me. The message prompted me to press one to connect with an advisor. When I did, a woman on the line informed me that they were in the process of preparing a lawsuit. Naturally, I pressed for more details, but she insisted they'd get back to me later. I explained that I was unwell and needed clarity immediately. She then suggested having my bank details handy for their next call. Feeling suspicious, I decided to contact HMRC directly, and they quickly confirmed it was all a scam.

I received a rather alarming call claiming I owed taxes amounting to £2180 for the years 2005 to 2016. When I challenged them, suggesting it might be a scam, they persisted, insisting they were representatives from HMRC. They even went so far as to say that a police officer was just five minutes away, ready to come and arrest me! Naturally, I ended that conversation promptly. Thankfully, they haven't reached out to me again since that unsettling encounter.

I tried calling them back, and sure enough, they said they were HMRC, but I ended the call straight away. I reached out to BT for help, but they couldn't do anything. Today, this number called me but I didn’t pick up. When I checked my voicemail, there was an automated message about HMRC taking legal action against me (or maybe my partner, who can tell?!). It told me to press 1 to speak to my caseworker. I decided to search this number here and, just as I thought, it’s a scam. This site really helps to verify numbers and read others’ experiences because these calls can be pretty unsettling.

This morning, I got a rather pompous phone call from a chap claiming to be with HM Customs and Excise, saying they were building a case against me. I promptly told him I’d come by the office in person, to which a distinctly accented bloke interjected, stating, “Then we’ll have to arrest you.” After that, I dialled 1471 and a female voice merely asked, “How may we assist you?” At that point, I decided it was best to hang up. It dawned on me that this was nothing but a scam. I really appreciate your website; it’s a gem! I’m 77 years young and I must admit, I’m still a bit rattled!

7th November 2016. Just had a rather dodgy call claiming that I was involved in some legal matter with HMRC. The voice sounded like a machine-definitely a scam. HMRC wouldn't communicate like that, especially with anyone at home potentially answering the phone. I reached out to HMRC, and they informed me that numerous phone scams are doing the rounds. It’s high time HMRC took a good hard look at this scam situation. Honestly, is everyone losing their marbles? On the 22nd of October, 2016, I had a rather unsettling experience when I received a voicemail from the number mentioned. The message claimed to be from an HMRC case officer, alleging that they were initiating a case against me and urging me to return their call. Naturally, I was puzzled as I had just reassured myself that all my tax matters were in order.
