Got a call from this number earlier today, around 2:38pm on 09/12/2016. It was some automated voice pretending to be from Her Majesty's Customs & Revenue, saying we're being sued or something like that. No one gave a name, just told me to press 1 to speak to a customs officer. I didn’t press anything. No one in my house has received any emails, letters or calls about being sued by anyone. Obviously just a scam number, using a Manchester dialling code. Best thing is to steer clear of it and maybe get your phone company to block it if they can. The dodgy number is 01618504599.

01618504599 is being used by the same awful people behind the 01618503938 calls. They ring with a recorded message about some tax prosecution stuff, just to scare folks into ringing them back. Then, as others have pointed out on this brilliant site, they try to scam you out of your cash by asking for iTunes vouchers. Honestly, these scammers are disgusting and should be taken to court for trying to cheat people. Perhaps the Watchdog programme could do a sting to catch them out?

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC saying they were making a report about me and to press one to talk to someone. I pressed one. A woman said they were getting ready to take legal action against me. I asked her what for, but she just said they'd ring back later. I told her I was unwell and wanted the info straight away, but she insisted they'd call me again and asked if I had my bank details ready. So, I rang HMRC myself and they told me it was a scam.

They called me claiming I owed £2180 in tax for years between 2005 and 2016. I told them I knew it was a scam, but they kept insisting they were from HMRC. Got a call early today from a bloke with a really posh accent claiming to be from HM Customs and Excise, saying they were building a case against me. I told him I’d go down to the office in person. Suddenly, another voice with an Eastern accent pipes up, “Then we’ll arrest you.” I quickly dialled 1471 and got a lady saying, “How can we help you?” That’s when I knew it was a scam and hung up straight away. 7th November 2016. Got a call warning me about a legal case from HMRC. The call was clearly automated and obviously a con. There's no way HMRC would handle things like this over the phone since anyone could answer. Checked with HMRC directly and they said loads of phone scams are going around. I got a call from a number like this one claiming HMRC was taking me to court. I hit 1 just to tell them off and then the line just cut out! As far as I’m aware, HMRC actually have been trying to reach me about a tax refund I’m due because I paid too much. So this seemed totally dodgy to me.
