My gran got a call from someone pretending to be from HMRC. They said she had to pay up straight away or she’d be nicked within the hour. I was there luckily and called the coppers, who straight away told us it was a scam. They asked us to get some details off the caller, and he gave a name and an address in London. The police checked it out and found it was just a terrace of houses.

These bastards just phoned my mum pretending to be from HMRC. They told her she owed £96000 and if she didn’t pay up, they’d take her house, car and anything else she owns. When she asked who he was, the bloke snapped “Don’t interrupt me or I’ll send a copper round to your door to arrest you right away.” It’d be laughable if it wasn’t targeting older or vulnerable people who might freak out and fall for it.
