Never pick up calls that show a city name on your screen. I got one saying it was from Manchester, but I’ve had the same kind of calls showing Swansea, Llanelli, Durham, Macclesfield and Leicester too. Just don’t bother answering any of these. After a while, the automated system will mark your number as inactive. I reckon if I answer by mistake, they start ringing again.

I’ve picked up twice and both times it’s been some automated voice claiming I’d won something, then some person - sounded like a woman named Will or something - rattling on about PPI. I told them I was certain I never had it since I’ve never taken out a loan, credit card or any finance. When I got my mortgage, I even had to sign a form confirming I wasn’t going for ppi. Then they started pushing for specific years and dates, which I declined to give. The bloke said he didn’t believe I was debt-free! Ended up hanging up, and he called me back immediately.
