These fraudsters have made millions by faking real bank phone numbers. If your bank calls you out of the blue, it’s safest to hang up straight away. Then ring them back using the number on your card. The customer service team will be able to tell you if the bank has been trying to get hold of you, and can help sort it or put you through to the right place. Keep in mind, even bank staff might not know every number the bank uses, and a genuine number being faked doesn’t mean it’s a bad number. Spoofing real numbers is a big headache for companies and their customers alike.

Got a really worrying call. I’d already got a call from the Co Op, but this time it was from a different number and they had the name of the person I spoke to before.
