Got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC about some fraud linked to me and they wanted me to press 1 to speak to an advisor. I checked with HMRC and they said they’d always ask for a gateway code first. So I reckon this is a scam and if you get a call like that, just hang up. If it was real fraud, they’d send you a letter first.

somebody called me saying they were from hmrc about a supposed fraud thing with my details and told me to press 1 to speak to someone. i checked with hmrc and they said they’d always ask for a gateway number first, so i reckon this is definitely a scam. if there was an actual fraud problem, they’d send you a letter, so best just hang up straight away.
