Got a call from a woman with a foreign accent saying I was among 50 loyal customers chosen for a 35% cashback offer. She obviously had my number and maybe even my address, but she completely messed up the name of my local exchange. Things got weird when I asked about this so-called VoIP deal she mentioned - that's the internet-based phone service I'd need for fibre broadband (which I was supposed to have set up just before Easter). But BT has put the installation on hold. They called me twice within 10 days. Honestly, these scammers are trying way too hard.

Got a call from a lady with a thick foreign accent, and you could hear kids playing in the background. She asked if I was Terence Richard Goodchild, then told me I’d been with their service for a while and qualified for a 35% 'senior discount' on my phone bill. When I asked which company she was with, she said BT and said she just needed my date of birth to sort out the refund. I said I wasn’t sure about the call and would ring back.
