I’m quite certain the bloke, who had a pretty posh accent - not that it means much, scammers can sound any way - claimed to be from Care Cost Solutions. I wasn’t fully paying attention, phone wasn’t right by my ear. He mentioned something about new Government rules and that they were getting in touch with all their clients. I didn’t say anything and soon realised it wasn’t some recorded message, but that wouldn’t have mattered anyway. Ended up hanging up and blocking the number.

Care Cost Solutions say they’re located in south west London but they called me from a phone number in Manchester. The caller mentioned something about having info on people who’d done eco-friendly improvements on their homes. When I questioned why that had anything to do with the risk of losing my house because of long term care costs, he just repeated the same line. Planning to report this number as a scam.

They try to scare you by saying if you need long term care they might take your house to cover the costs - which can happen, sure, but then they suggest you sell them your freehold so the council cant go after it... but really, youd still need that cash to pay for your care, so it makes no difference. And one big tip - never ring back a number you don’t recognise. It’s super risky. Those fake numbers might sometimes belong to someone innocent, or it could be a variation of the wangiri scam.
