Got another call from 01618203148, same one as two days ago. Didn’t pick up and no voicemail left. I looked them up after and honestly, I’m relieved I didn’t answer. After seeing what others said, I’m defo blocking it now.

Got two calls from this number earlier today. Couldn't properly hear which company it was from. The second time, I foolishly picked up. A bloke with an accent I couldn’t place had my name and just kept talking over me quite rudely. I ended up just hanging up. Honestly, best to ignore this irritating caller!

Totally dodgy and a con, for sure. What’s the point of doing this? They’d earn better cash and cop less grief working on a till at Morrisons. Instead of those bailiff programmes, they should have a show that hunts these scammers and puts a stop to them.

If you get scam calls or dodgy emails, make sure to report them to Action Fraud using their report-phishing site. Just follow the steps there, and don’t forget to also inform the City of London fraud team, as they suggest on the last page of that UK police website. Action Fraud actually does something about these reports, though the BBC news lately only mentioned one kind of fraud the police look into, missing the chance to alert folks about every type out there. Also, pop your info on this site to help warn other people.

A lady said she was ringing from some legal firm. I told her the number she was calling from showed up as a scam on my phone, and she just hung up straight away. Classic behaviour, right?

Got a call about a miss-sold mortgage and got straight away suspicious, figured it was just trying to fish for my info. Told them I don’t have a mortgage (which isn’t true) - then blocked their number and checked this site out. Looks like I’m not the only one getting these calls.

Got a call from someone trying to find out if I was stuck with a dodgy mortgage and wanted me to say if I had one. When I asked how they got my number, they just cut me off. Another 0161 number added to the block list.

Got a call from a bloke with a Northern kinda Asian accent. He said he had some secret info he’d nicked from my mortgage firm that could cut down what I owe! Complete rubbish, these people are scammers, best avoid them at all costs!

Got a call from Helping Hand Legals on my landline. I’m a bit hard of hearing so I don’t really answer unknown voices, just quietly ended the call. Sometimes I leave the phone on the windowsill and just walk away, hoping it keeps one of their lines busy till I eventually hang up. Might seem a bit passive aggressive but worth a go!

They said they were from Helping Hands Investigators, claiming to be connected to HMRC. Said they wanted to assist with mis-sold mortgage claims. I cut them off straight away and asked what connection they had with HMRC. They said they acted on HMRC’s behalf, but I work there and have never heard of them. The guy got really annoyed when I questioned him and accused me of lying. I told him I’d be reporting the call and then ended it.

If you're sure the person calling isn’t a real debt collector, the smartest move is to simply not pick up. Fraudsters are after fast results and easy marks. If you don’t react, they’ll just try someone else who might. When scammers think you’re scared or think you owe them money, plus they know you’ll always answer, they’ll focus on you and keep pestering.
